Crazy Day in Boston
Worked from home today since Boston is in lockdown mode because of the suspect who is still on the loose.
This week has been bizarre and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the events of late.
So stay safe and keep the ones you love close.

Massachusetts Poetry Festival is on!
Just heard Sharon Olds will be the Headlining the next Massachusetts Poetry Festival May 3-5 2013. How cool is that!
Also reading at the festival will be Terrance Hayes, Tracy K. Smith, Nick Flynn and more. Very excited to go to the Mass Festival since I won't be attending Dodge Poetry Festival this year.

Natasha Trethewey Named Poet Laureate!
What a way to begin the summer! Just heard this week about Trethewey's appointment to Poet Laureate and couldn't be happier. Nice to have someone of my generation make the prized post.
In other poetry news, U.K. Education Secretary Michael Gove is "requiring school age children to learn and recite poetry as part of the new curriculum which will be farm more rigorous than it has been in the past." My father would have been happy about that. Very old school approach.
Like drawing and singing, I think poetry is something that children appreciate and enjoy early in life and then if it isn't encouraged it sort of goes out of their lives. Lynda Barry talks about this too.
You know there's going to be some parents who won't like this. Glad my parents weren't like that.

Glam Slam Cambridge Videos!
I know I know it's taking me forever to get footage of the Glam Slam we did in December online. I just didn't have the time what with all the post holiday sulking I usually do.
This week I'm posting the intro to our Glam Slam Cambridge Poetry gig with emcee George Ferencik thanking violinist Max Wolpert for his gorgeous playing throughout the first part of the evening. He introduces me here where I read, "The Dictionary of Goodbyes." Visit my Youtube Channel to view more from Glam Slam Cambridge. Enjoy:
